WARNING: This story contains ponies kissing.

It had been a very long day for Rainbow Dash.  First she had to clean up the clouds from the big storm they had set up the day before and then Pinkie wanted to roam around the town doing their usual routine.  As the sun went down and Pinkie went hopping away, leaving her alone in the field on the edge of Ponyville, Rainbow wanted nothing more than to collapse.

She looked longingly up at the clouds, those oh so comfy clouds, but the soreness in her wings told her they were out of reach for now.  She looked around briefly for a near enough tree to climb into, but her legs gave out.  "The buck with it," she said and she was asleep before she finished rolling on to her back.

In her dream, she flew.  Her speed felt slower, but she knew it was faster than she'd ever flown in her life.  When Rainbow landed, she was there.  She wasn't anypony in particular and her coat and mane shifted in between mental blinks, but she was always beautiful.  She spoke in that gibberish that dreams speak in, but Dash understood it anyway.  The dream mare was calling her amazing, beautiful.

Even in sleep, Rainbow's heart was pounding, her face was getting hot.  The other girl approached and Rainbow didn't move an inch.  Only when she felt the other's breath on her face did Dash stretch out her neck, her mouth opening to meet the dream mare.  The lips felt small against her own, but they moved hungrily, backing off briefly only to go into a flurry of smaller kisses.  The rainbow maned peagsus felt the other's tongue enter her mouth, searching for a partner.  Rainbow's own went to meet her her and upon touching, the visiting tongue fled.  Rainbow Dash felt a sudden pressure on her chest and she woke up to the sound of a yelp.

Rainbow sat up and rolled to her side, her eyes snapping open.  Curled up near her, looking at her with terrified eyes and shaking, was Scootaloo.  Rainbow brought a hoof to her mouth and it came away wet.  Slowly, hesitantly, she said, "You kissed me."

Scootaloo's eyes filled with tears and she looked away before they could spill out.  "I'm sorry," she said over and over as the the hot salty water ran down her nose.

Rainbow Dash cringed, feeling guilty for making the filly cry and she glanced around expecting to see somepony glaring at her for her cruelty.  "It's okay," she said quickly.  "I'm just a little confused is all."  She reached out towards the little orange pegasus.  The moment the hoof touched her, Scootaloo scurried further away as though the hoof had been burning hot.

"I'm not going to hurt you," Rainbow Dash said as reassuringly as her own confusion would allow.  "I just,"  Rainbow Dash rubbed the back of her head, trying to shake off the last feelings of being asleep.  "Why did you kiss me,"  she asked after finding the words she was looking for.

Scootaloo snorted loudly as she sucked back on her tears and snot.  She turned her head to face Rainbow, her eyes had not yet found that courage and stayed downcast.

The older pegasus let out a small laugh, "Look, I was a kid once too.  If this was a dare or a bet or something, I won't be-"

"Can I be your girlfriend," Scootaloo blurted, her eyes finally meeting Rainbow's own.

Rainbow was frozen still.  "Beg your pardon."

The little filly scooched forward until she was just in front of Rainbow Dash.  Scootaloo's face was back to looking down at her own nervously fidgeting hooves.  "You're really pretty," she murmured.  "And I've seen you kiss other mares sometimes and go places with them and I was wondering if you could maybe do that stuff with me."

Rainbow Dash wildly scanned the horizon, certain that the pony police would be arresting her in mere moments.  "Uh, you're a bit young for that, maybe you want to try somepony closer to your age," she babbled.

Rainbow Dash was cut off as she heard a loud sob.  She saw tiny tears falling on Scootaloo's hooves.  In what was less than a whisper, the pony said, "I did."

Everything else in Rainbow Dash's mind vanished.  Her face relaxed and in a calm, even voice she said, "Tell me about it."

Scootaloo didn't look up once and she had to pause to sniff every few words, but she told her.  "Sweetie Belle and I go way back, ya know.  I was complaining about how my mane looked, trying to get it in some order and she told me that I always looked pretty anyway.  I felt, I dunno, strange right then.  I asked her if she meant it and she said yes and I told her she was pretty too.  Then I," she couldn't keep talking, she started crying too hard.

Rainbow Dash was looking up, trying very hard not to join the filly.  She had to be the big tough grown-up here.  She put a leg around Scootaloo and the little pegasus buried her wet face into Dash's chest and shook.

"She wasn't mad or anything," she continued with her face pressed against Rainbow Dash.  "But the way she looked at me, I just."  She pulled her tiny tear streaked face away and looked up at the older mare.  "What's wrong with me Rainbow Dash," she yelled.  "Why do I feel like this?!"

Rainbow Dash couldn't keep it in any more, a couple hot tears forced their way out and she wrapped her forelegs and wings around the little pony in a tight embrace.  "You're just growing up kid," she said, her voice cracking.

The blue pegasus released the smaller orange one and laid down on her belly so that the two were at eye level.  "There's nothing wrong with you.  Some ponies seem to forget it when they get older, but I remember.  Just cause you're young, it doesn't make the feelings less real."  She put a blue hoof under Scootaloo's chin and she smiled.  It was a pained smile.  "But sometimes that other pony isn't going to feel the same way.  Sometimes they can't feel that way about you.  There's nothing wrong with that either."

"But it hurts," Scootaloo said touching a hoof to her little chest.  "It hurts so bad Rainbow Dash."

"Yeah," Dash nodded.  "It'll do that."  Rainbow Dash paused, she knew what another pony would do.  They'd tell her it wouldn't always feel like that, but she didn't want to lie.  "And it will keep doing that every time."  Scootaloo's face scrunched up and she started to turn away.  Rainbow leaned forward and touched her nose to Scootaloo's, stopping her.  "But you know what else?  Sometimes, you find another pony who does feel that way about you and do you know what feels like?"

"What," Scootaloo asked, her eyes wide and shimmering.

Rainbow Dash let her own tears slide down freely as she kissed the pony on her forehead.  She pulled back and looked into the crying eyes mirroring her own.  "It's feels so awesome."
This one owes it's origins to :iconcaluriri: for making me start thinking about these two kissing.

Also a shoutout to :iconkloudmutt: for making a picture that solidified the story.

And one to a picture of Scootaloo kissing Sweetie Belle and looking ashamed after.

This story serves dual purposes.

For one I get to tell a story about being young and confused by your own feelings. Ya know, that moment when kissing stops being something you play at and something you suddenly WANT to do with someone in particular.

The other thing is it kinda shows why I like to think of Dash as gay. You see, I'm sure there are plenty of folks who grew up in wonderful supportive environments and never felt ashamed of anything they felt.

But there are others who don't understand why they feel the way they do and feel horrible for not being like everyone else. Maybe it'd be nice if they had someone to say, "Your feelings aren't bad. You aren't bad. It's just a part of who you are."

Or something like that.
