Grumpy Gilda by DizzyPacce Grumpy Gilda by DizzyPacce
Artist is Razzek. She is awesome and you should give her money.

I wanted to practice that more comic book style of shading.
I really think I'm getting better. There's still much more I can learn, but for a dude with no formal training or education and using a mouse and GIMP, I think I'm doing okay.

Also, I love Gilda. She's my favorite bitch.

Ooo, this is so awesome! And, yay, now I don't have to fix her missing markings on the line work! :D

Heeeee!
I'm glad you like what I did.
I'm actually surprised I got the eye markings to look as good as they did without any guide lines.

Groovy.
Any critiques on my colour/shading?
I feel like I'm getting better, but I know there's plenty of room for improvement.

Ooh let's see! You'll have to pardon ineloquence with this a bit!

First off, I love the whole area around the eye. It is super snazzy. The shape and color of the eyelid, and the patch of color around it are perfect. And so crisp and confident without anything from the lines too!
Shading on the beak is quite nice, and good job using hatching from the line work as the core shadow for the arms and claws.

The main thing that strikes me as off is something about how the hightlights on the wings lay ontop of the hatched lines there. But the same sort of thing looks really for the gloss of the tail. Some highlights on the beak and the claws could give them a more volumous feel too, depending on if that's what you're going for. I feel like you're getting better too by the way!
